The first round of the Snows Toyota Super League on the Match Lake at Orchard saw last year’s champion Pete Newman get off to a flying start in winning Division 1.

Newman (Sonubaits) took 65lb 4oz of carp to 8lb on long pole and soft pellet to get the better of Snows Toyota’s Dave Higgins who caught 60lb 8oz of small carp on pole and maggot. Dave Sharpe finished third with 42lb and Dave Moody (Reids Tackle) fourth with 34lb 8oz, writes MARK SIMMONDS.

In Division 2, Dorset Raiders’ Jem Turner took 50lb 4oz of carp on pole and maggot in the margins to win from Mark Cannings (43lb 9oz of carp on pole and soft pellet in the margins). Paul Fellbrich finished third with 37lb 14oz and Chalky White (32lb 15oz) fourth.

Cormorants’ match on the Main Lake at Orchard was won by Neil Tappin (Reelcare) with 17 carp for 49lb 10oz on long pole and corn to the island. Paul Hough continued his good run with second spot with a catch of 14 carp to 5lb for 41lb 12oz. Others: D Seed 30lb 2oz, K Barry 28lb 9oz, M Aldis 26lb 6oz, D Hydes 24lb 7oz.

Parkgate and British Legion’s match on the Match Lake at Dandys Ford saw Gary Pickin use a straight forward ledgered corn to take 18lb of carp from peg 23 to win from Keith Reid who took 15lb 8oz of carp on pole and corn.

Others: T Smith 9lb 2oz, C Witt 8lb 4oz and R Jenkins 8lb 4oz.

 TVAC held a sweepstakes on Willow Lake which went to Gary Wright, who took two carp to 8lb on meat, plus 6lb of silvers, for a total of 18lb 11oz. Frank Gumbleton finished second with four carp for 13lb 8oz on soft pellet and worm, with Andy Palmer third with 9lb of silver fish on pole and pellet.
