EASTLEIGH kept up the pressure on Skrill Conference South leaders Bromley by reeling off their seventh straight league and cup win this afternoon.

Hampshire neighbours Gosport Borough were the latest victims, beaten 2-1 at the Silverlake Stadium in front of a 668 crowd.

Goals by Craig McAllister and Ben Strevens carried the Spitfires to victory against a Gosport side who have a tough fight ahead of them to stay in the league.

McAllister capitalised on a mix-up in the Borough defence to lob Eastleigh into a ninth-minute lead.

Gosport went close to levelling with a terrific, dipping 20-yarder from ex-Spitfire Danny Smith but home keeper Ross Flitney managed to fingertip it onto the bar.

But for a couple of terrific saves by Nathan Ashmore, Eastleigh would have doubled their lead long before Ben Strevens fired in number two on 72 minutes.

Substitute Dan Woodward quickly pulled one back for Borough amid a goalmouth scramble, but the Spitfires dominated the closing minutes with McAllister missing an open goal and being denied by a goalline clearance and Strevens having a strong penalty shout turned down.

With Bromley winning 2-1 at Bath City, Eastleigh – away to Weston-super-Mare on Tuesday - remain 11 points off top with four games in hand on Mark Goldberg’s pacesetters.
