There was a sense of déjà vu in the Hampshire Six Form Colleges 2nd XI League this afternoon.
Barton Peveril goalkeeper Mike Menton, managed to score a replica of Stoke City stopper Asmir Begovic’s 100 yard kick, that bounced wickedly over a helpless Artur Boruc in 1-1 draw at the Britannia Stadium last month.
Menton, Peveril’s stand-in ‘keeper, unleashed a drop kick which sailed into the back of the net from his own box on Wednesday afternoon. Like Begovic’s goal, the wind whipped the ball out the reach of Richard Taunton’s stopper Philipe Rodrigues.
The 18-year-old's goal secured the second goal of the game to put Peveril 2-0 up. In contrast to the Potters match, the match-up between Tauntons and Barton Peveril finished 7-3 to the latter.
