Atherley retained the A League honours by a distance, Anne Pearce took the William Day singles and Jean Arnaud and Margaret Darkin collected the WD pairs, while the Hill Lane club also won three runners-up trophies.
Hedge End had double delight on the team front being crowned champions of the B and D leagues and earned more silverware through June Davis in the two-wood singles plate.
With experienced skips Wendy Line and Margaret Darkin at the helm, Atherley skated to the title by 16½ points winning 13 of their 14 matches.
Other members of the line-up were Jackie Farmer, Gill Hayes, Jenny McAusland, Anne Pearce, Joan Penfold and Jean Terrell while super-sub Jean Arnaud was drafted in when required.
“We’re ecstatic!” That was the description by B team captain Pam Fraser of the atmosphere at Hedge End after the club’s summer scorcher –and now that they are back in the A League they are determined to stay there.
Business is so good at the sociable Woodhouse Lane club that while others are losing players, Hedge End have applied to enter a third side in the league as they have 54 lady members.
The rinks who captured the B League were: Loriene Slater, Leslie Allan, Margaret Matthews, Pam Fraser (skip); Chris Hall, Margaret Cumner, Valerie Taylor, Dora Sawyer (skip); Rosemary Whittaker, June Davis, Mary Marsh, Ellen Barfoot (skip).
Hedge End finished top with 39½ points ahead of runners-up Hyde Abbey (36) but for the D Leaguers the margin was just half a point in front of County, the club of S&D president Jill Meager who presented Hedge End captain Wendy Bannel with the trophy (without shedding a tear).
Victorious Hedge End rinks were Wendy Riley, Maureen Matthews, Barbara Babb and Wendy Bannel (skip); Hazel Reed, Gloria Osmond, June Simpson, Shirley Brasier (skip); Jean Cleave, Jean Rowe, Anita Pound, Vera Moody (skip).
Highlight for host club Fleming Park was Sue Herring receiving the Champion of Champions trophy following her 21-17 victory against Pearce at Pirrie Park.
President Meager was supported by 13 members from her club among more than 120 diners.
