Hard work is paying off for Jack Terrell.

The Southampton fighter has been boxing for four years, but only just committed to getting himself into top shape.

And it is paying dividends as he won his Hampshire NABC Class A under-75kg bout with Tom Johnson (Heart of Portsmouth) in a fantastic show put on by his club, Golden Ring ABC, at the Novotel.

The fight was a close run thing but Terrell used his height advantage and managed to only get caught with jabs while landing the more solid shots.

Albie Samways, 13, celebrated his second contest, against the more experienced Tyresse Miles (Barton Hill), with a win via a majority decision.

Jordan Gaunt got another win on the board for Golden Ring at cruiserweight and looked cool and composed throughout his debut against Sam Jacobs (Ventnor). After a clear lead in the first round the Islander put Gaunt down for an eight count but it was the only blip on a fantastic debut as he came away with a unanimous win.

Triple junior champion Lewie Edmondson was having his first senior contest against the highly rated Josh Burnham from Watford club Bushey at middleweight.

Even though Burnham had only lost a handful of contests in a 40+ bout career and is an open class boxer, he couldn’t pin Edmondson down to get any significant power shots landed and was kept at long range by the silky skills of the Shirley international who secured a unanimous decision. Sherkhan Ahmedi was in control of his light welterweight contest against James Baker (Bognor) in the first round but was caught with a heavy shot in the second that forced the ref to give him a count. When they boxed on Baker landed some telling blows and the ref called the bout to a halt.

Jimmy Cooper didn’t really didn’t show the class that he has and was drawn into a war with the strong Jacob Gabriel (Basingstoke) in their open lightweight bout.

The ref gave Cooper a count in the second and third rounds and Gabriel won a unanimous points decision.

Fight of the night was left till the end as national champion and ABA semi finalist Brad Pauls went toe-to-toe with the equally big punching James Woolnough (Guernsey) in the open light middleweight division.

Pauls nearly didn’t box as he was ill for a few days earlier in the week but he was determined to get in the ring.

Right from the start the heavy shots were going in and both lads took and landed solid shots that would have stopped lesser opponents.

The three rounds were action packed and the crowed were fed a feast of action that had them all stood giving a standing ovation. In the end Pauls more accurate punching and higher work rate got him the unanimous win.
