Smith: I want Jimmy to stay as skipper
Hampshire new boy Will Smith hopes Jimmy Adams continues as captain.
Smith, who has signed a two-year contract, captained Durham to a successful defence of the LV County Championship title in 2009.
Hampshire captain Adams has not committed to the role next year, leading to some speculation that Smith will take over.
But Hampshire’s latest signing insists that is not the case.
“The captaincy hasn’t been discussed, I’ve already had a few chats with Jimmy about the move and I’m fully behind him,” said Smith, who has known Adams since their university days.
“Jimmy has always been one of my most respected opponents. He was at Loughborough and I was at Durham, so we played against each other and together for British Universities.
“He’s a fantastic guy, a great bloke and I hope he continues as captain.
“His record speaks for itself, he’s orchestrated a lot of success and if I can help ease the burden in any way I’ll be only too happy to.”
