King takes gold in team pursuit
2:44pm Tuesday 1st October 2013 in Sport
Hampshire’s Dani King stormed to victory in the women’s team pursuit event at the British Cycling National Track Championships.
The Hamble rider was reunited with her fellow Olympic gold medallists Laura Trott and Joanna Rowsell, as well as newcomer Elinor Barker, in Manchester.
King was victorious in the same event at London 2012, alongside Trott and Rowsell, but the format of the race has since changed.
An extra rider now competes in the women’s section, while the distance has been extended to 4,000m, rather than the 3,000m it used to cover.
Unsurprisingly, King and the rest of her Wiggle Honda team crushed their competitors this week.
The 22-year-old said: “It’s quite different really, an extra four laps, but there’s an extra rider as well, so that changes things, but we’re learning all the time and think we can only go quicker.
“We took a similar approach to when we were a three. Only the changes were different, but it’s all about maintaining speed.”
King and Trott also won gold in the women’s madison at the National Cycling Centre.
