Bournemouth will play Alresford in the Hampshire Senior Cup final at the Goldsands Stadium

SURPRISE side Alresford Town will play AFC Bournemouth at the Cherries’ own stadium in the final of the Hampshire Senior Cup on Monday, April 22 (7.30pm).

After two years of playing the final at Saints’ St Mary’s stadium, the Hampshire FA are returning to Bournemouth’s renamed Goldsands Stadium for their blue riband cup competition.

AFC Bournemouth overcame AFC Totton at the Testwood Stadium 4-2 on penalties last night, while Wessex League table-toppers Alresford stunned Southern Leaguers Sholing 2-1.

This is the first time since 1989 that the Cherries have reached the final, while Alresford are first time finalists.

Neil Cassar, Chief Executive of Hampshire FA, said: “We are delighted to be returning to AFC Bournemouth for the Saturday Senior Cup Final this year and we congratulate the players, officials and supporters of both Alresford Town and AFC Bournemouth in reaching the final.

“It will be a great final for the neutral and we are all thoroughly looking forward to it.”

No it won't. It'll be the most one-sided final in years. Congratulations to both sides on making the final but really, a final is meant to be played at a neutral location.
