Dian Place congratulates husband Derek after he won the Bowls Hampshire secretaries’ title at Atherley
MUCH has been written about Janet Ballard’s performance at winning singles trophies with three associations. But Derek Place is almost the men’s equivalent of the Waterside skip.
He too captured trophies with three different associations – though unlike Ballard’s three victories the Brockenhurst stalwart had two wins and a runners-up award though not all in singles’ competitions.
Place triumphed in the Bowls Hampshire secretaries’ singles for the umpteenth time at Atherley, took the New Forest BA pairs with Alan Jennings and was runner-up in the Southampton and District singles.
He will receive his New Forest trophy during the association’s presentation evening at Hoburne Bashley on Thursday next week. Besides his individual prowess he helped Brock record a league and cup double for the second year on the bounce.
