A Winchester charity worker has been given a prestigious award by the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire.

Myra Clare, chairman and volunteer for Parkinson’s UK Winchester, was given the British Empire Medal (BEM) Civil Division by Dame Mary Fagan at a ceremony in Winchester last Tuesday (Sept 25).

She was one of several Hampshire residents to be awarded the medal, including Peter Mills who was rewarded for his work with the Alresford and District Agricultural Society’s annual show.

Kings Somborne scout leader and school volunteer Janice Waterman was also presented with the BEM at the Winchester Guildhall event.

The Lord-Lieutenant also gave Meritorious Service awards to members of the reserve forces and cadets, Royal Humane Society awards to members of Hampshire Police and civilians, and Commission Certificates to new Deputy Lieutenants. The Lord-Lieutenant’s cadets were also appointed and presentations made to outgoing cadets.
