Winchester Art Club to present exhibition at Discovery centre Winchester Art Club to present exhibition at Discovery centre

Winchester is to celebrate the fine arts with a display of work by local enthusiasts.

Members of the Winchester Art Club, from beginners to experienced artists, have submitted work and the best will be included in the annual exhibition, now in its fifth year at the Discovery Centre's City Space.

Patricia Stallard, city council portfolio holder for culture, said: “It is always a pleasure to welcome the Winchester Art Club whose members never fail to deliver a colourful and inspiring show which is always popular with visitors to City Space.”

The art club, founded in 1919, seeks to encourage fine arts in Winchester and to mark the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, members were invited to submit work under a category reflecting Olympic values. The winners of this category will also go on display. Continuing the celebration of fine art, on Friday (August 31) the club presents an evening talk on James Whistler, by the art historian and author Douglas Skeggs.

The exhibition runs from September 1 to 30 and admission is free. Tickets for the evening talk are £8. Contact the discovery Centre for further details.
