THE number of jobless in the Winchester area remained exactly the same last month.

The numbers claiming jobseekers allowance in February and March was 1,045.

Across other local authority districts in Hampshire there were slight falls: Eastleigh, 1,765 to 1,750; Test Valley, 1,238 to 1,230; But in Southampton the numbers climbed from 6,145 to 6,236 and the same in Fareham, 1,366 to 1,395.

I know its newsworthy really, but "Nothing at all happens in Winchester" is not going to win any prizes for journalism, is it?

Seriously, though, that is quite an achievement really- there must have been a number of new claimants and a number of people signing off for whatever reason, so keeping the figure exactly the same took real talent by someone. Either that or they submitted the wrong set of figures.
