THE future of one of the last free all-day car parks in Winchester is in doubt.
The city council is currently considering restricting use of the car park in Hillier Way, Abbotts Barton amid safety fears.
Councillors heard that the one in Hillier Way is being monopolised by commuters who park for free and then walk the 10-15 minutes into the city centre. Time restrictions are being considered.
Also, in future the council will look at the use of the space at the foot of St Catherine’s Hill off Garnier Road, St Cross, the town forum heard.

More importantly, parking problems around Winchester City continue, particularly as Peter Symonds provide no parking spaces for students so they park anywhere they can in the vicinity (on the pavement in Greenacres, in North Hill Close, partially blocking Stoney Lane, Bereweeke Avenue, Vernham Road etc.) that isn't occupied by commuters! Soon as they have been put in the stop cars parking along the whole of the road, Stoney Lane parking bays have to be made two hours to stop part of this problem, so if it is enforced (and in Acorn Close the yellow line most definitely isn't) the problem will spread further into Weeke. What are Peter Symonds and the council doing about this?
