10:50am Tuesday 31st January 2012 in Winchester
Winchester’S Theatre Royal is celebrating the Chinese New Year in style this week.
The Jewry Street venue is hosting an evening of Chinese music on Thursday, February 2, organised by Winchester School of Art and the University of Southampton Confucius Institute.
Both traditional and modern Chinese music will be performed by twenty members of the Weinan Teachers’ University Art Troupe from Western China, who will also put on displays of martial arts, calligraphy and Peking opera.
It is the first major event organised by the Confucius Institute since it opened in October 2011, aiming to build a better understanding of China through culture.
The performance starts at 7pm. Tickets are free but advance booking is recommended by calling the box office on 01962 840440 or visiting www.theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk.
