CIVIC chiefs are still unsure how big a windfall they have received in the will of a former Winchester resident.

Winchester City Council will benefit in the will of Harold Harris, who died in Hong Kong last August.

One of his will’s conditions stated the bequest must be used to build homes for the elderly but the amount is still unknown.

Cllr Keith Wood, portfolio member for finance and estates, said: “We do not know if we can build a row of houses or a garage.”

“It’s a very generous bequest and it’s something we should be very grateful for,” he added.
