THE Christmas period saw a surge in the use of car parks and park and ride services in Winchester.
Winchester City Council chiefs described the level of usage, particularly of the park and ride, as unprecedented and reported that most car parks were at capacity and additional buses had to be provided to cope with demand at a full council meeting.
This has meant car parking income exceeded its target for November and December, making up for numbers in the lead up which had fallen below expectations.
The anticipated outturn for the year is now in line with the revised budget.
