WINCHESTER City Council has no plans to restore bus services curtailed by cuts made by Hampshire County Council.
The question was posed by councillor Simon Cook (Lib Dem) of the possibility of providing financial support as a subsidy to restore services to areas recently deprived of bus routes as other district councils have done.
The council said it was not in a position financially to support such services and that there would be practical issues as to deciding which areas would receive such support.
At a meeting of the full council on Wednesday January 11, Leader of the Council councillor George Beckett said he understood the reasoning behind it, but would raise the matter with county council leader councillor Ken Thornber.
He said that it was the start of a slippery slope to provide services that were the statutory duty of other authorities.
