Winchester firefighters stop chimney fire in thatched cottage

Winchester firefighters tackled a chimney fire at a thatched cottage in Micheldever.

The crew stopped the fire from spreading to the vulnerable thatch by blanketing the roof with protective foam at the property in Duke Street at around 7.30pm on Monday.

Watch manager Chris Roper, of Winchester Fire Station, said anyone burning young wood should have their chimney swept twice a year.

A crew from Sutton Scotney also attended the incident.
