Winchester will head back to the Dark ages in half term as Angles, Saxons and Jutes invade the city.

Local re-enactment group Weorod will be visiting the City Museum in The Square, Winchester on Friday October 29 and Saturday October 30 to teach visitors about the history of the city.

Members of the group will be dressed in sixth and seventh century period costumes, while visitors will get the chance to handle replica artefacts and learn about the lifestyle, cookery and weaponry of the time.

Cllr Dominic Hiscock, Portfolio Holder for Economic Prosperity at Winchester City Council, said: “The team at Winchester Museums continue to find new ways to allow local people and visitors to take an interest in and discover more about the wealth of history the Winchester District has to offer.”

Meanwhile Winchester tourist information centre will be putting on a Halloween picture trail competition on for children during the half-term week. Children are invited to see how many spooky pictures they can find, with a prize on offer for the winner.

The centre in the Guildhall, Broadway, is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
