5:00pm Monday 9th August 2010 in Winchester

WHEN planning a cycle ride for good causes, some ambitious riders might tackle Land’s End to John O’Groats.
However, Rob Carslake from Winchester plans to go much further in aid of Naomi House children’s hospice.
He will be cycling 4,500km back to Hampshire through no less than 10 countries over a six-week period.
The 22-year-old economics student plans to set out from Constanta on Romania’s Black Sea coast on Thursday, September 2.
He said: “I've done a few cycle trips in the past. Last year some friends and I cycled from St Malo in France to Santander in Spain and when I was 16 I cycled from The Hague to Amsterdam.
“Neither of these were done in aid of charity and both used public transport on the way. This trip will be completely on my own, with no support and travelling through 10 countries.”
Once home he will face another challenge, the small matter of moving house from Winchester to Twyford.
Outward-bound retailers Blacks and Millets are backing his trip, and he is looking for extra sponsors.
