DRINK and register a political opinion at the same time is on offer at a Winchester pub.

The Fulflood Arms, in Cheriton Road, is rebranding the same beer in party colours over the coming weeks.

Three pumps will sport the colours of each of the three main political parties, red, blue and orange.

Customers can register their “vote” by choosing the ale in their party’s colours and, based on consumption figures, will be able to see which party is ahead in the election races.

The “ale poll” will run for the duration of the election campaign leading up to the vote itself on May 6, with the Fulflood Arms tracking the percentage of each from the night before and making the results available every morning.

Landlord, Andy Mansell, chose Itchen Valley Brewery’s Godfathers as it is the pub’s most popular pint. Godfathers was originally brewed by Andy’s father, Clive, when he first set up the brewery with a business partner back in 1997.

Andy said: “The Fulflood can often be a hotbed of public debate, with an increasing number of our regulars and visitors discussing the relative merits of each party’s past record and manifestos.

“We hope that by keeping score in our own way we’ll be able to add some spice to the political proceedings.”
