STAFF at Winchester hospital have been named among the best in the country for surgery training.

The gynaecology and obstetrics department at Royal Hampshire County Hospital were name in the top 10 teams in the country for surgery training.

The team, which is made up of nine consultants, were presented with a certificate from the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RCOG), who collected results from a nationwide survey asking junior doctors about thE training they received while on placement.

The junior doctors surveyed were asked to rate the department on their basic ultrasound, general and procedural training, as well as giving an overall recommendation. They rated the team at Winchester hospital very highly, giving excellent feedback and highly recommending them.

Renee Behrens, obstetrics and gynaecology consultant at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, said: “All our consultants are enthusiastic about training future consultants and this award only confirms our dedication and interest.

“We work with the trainees in teams, giving them individualised support and allowing the consultants to get to know them better in order to tailor training to their needs.”
