BAD weather didn't stop a Hampshire golf club raise thousands of pounds to help support families coping with cancer at their annual charity tournament.

South Winchester Golf Club raised funds for Wessex Cancer Trust as part of their Golf Classic. Nine teams took part in the tournament which raised £6,000 for local families affected by cancer.

The Swingers Society were the top team on the day with 88 points, while The Waterside Bandits were runners-up.

The event was sponsored by Cactus Business Solutions, while Winchester Motor Group provided a Redline car as the Hole in One Challenge prize.

During the post-match dinner, Bournemouth Football Player, Andrew Surman, gave a talk about his career and answered fans' questions.

Dawn Ingram, Fundraising Manager for Wessex Cancer Trust said: “The event was a huge success. Despite the weather, all the players have had a constant smile on their face! All funds and awareness raised during the Golf Day mean we can help more families in the Wessex region who have been affected by cancer. We look forward to next year!”
