A POPULAR beer festival is set to bring a taste of German back to Hampshire next week following the success of the inaugural event last year.

Residents will be able to experience a slice of Bavarian tradition when Oktoberfest returns to Winchester on Friday, September 15.

Part of the Guildhall's autumn events programme, the city will play host to authentic German food and drink as well as one of the UK's most popular Oktoberfest bands, Oompah Brass.

Erdinger will be supplying premium German beer, while Winchester High Street market stall 'Bratwurst UK' will be supplying tradition German food.

Guildhall manager Chris Smith said: “Last year was such a great event. We served some great German beer, including a good range of non-alcoholic drinks, and the band really is the most entertaining Oompah band I have seen.

"The atmosphere created is something that should not be missed."

It comes ahead of a new four-day Oktoberfest-style which is due to be launched in Southampton next month.

As previously reported, The event will see thousands of visitors and is set to boost the city's economy by £1million, organisers say.
