A WINCHESTER GP surgery is the first ion the city to become an accredited Learning Disability Friendly Practice.
St Clements is only the second in the entire West Hampshire district, to become an accredited Learning Disability (LD) Friendly Practice.
With the help of Southern Health’s strategic LD health facilitator, Marta Coates, the team has embedded LD-friendly criteria, ensuring local people with a learning disability get clear information about services.
Ms Coates said: “People with a learning disability experience poorer physical and mental health than the general population, and die earlier. Partly because they are more likely to have multiple conditions and communication difficulties but also because of an inequality in how they are treated by health and social care services. We are working hard to tackle this inequality and the Learning Disability Friendly accreditation is a great step forward.”
In addition, St Clements on Tanner Street is also a Dementia Friendly Practice.
