COUNCILLORS have marked the beginning of construction of new council homes in Alresford and Stanmore.

Nine are set to be constructed at Mitford Road, Alresford, and work will start in Bailey Close, Stanmore, later this month.

Caroline Horrill, city council portfolio holder for housing, said: “I am delighted to announce that this month will see the start of two new valuable council housing schemes at Mitford Road, Alresford and Bailey Close, Stanmore.

"These schemes are the latest part of the city council’s programme to deliver 300 much-needed new affordable homes designed to meet a range of community needs, across the district before 2020.

"With 107 units on site and an additional 88 being prepared for planning, we are well on our way to achieve our ambitious target”.

The new council homes in Alresford, consist of six one-bedroom flats,two two-bedroom homes and a two-bedroom bungalow which can be easily adapted to suit a family with a disabled member.

FE Chase & Son Ltd has been appointed as contractor for the scheme.

The homes in Bailey Close, include five one-bedroom flats. HA & DB Kitchin Ltd have been appointed as contractor for the scheme.

The new affordable rented homes are allocated through Hampshire Home Choice.
