A DAY of action celebrating the contributions immigrants make to life in the UK took place in Winchester.
One Day Without Us was marked by mums, children and friends with a lunchtime picnic in Abbey Gardens.
Sylke Kramer, the organiser of the picnic, said “We had some 30 people here, some English, many from Europe and further afield. It was good to see that there is strong support for migrants in Winchester”.
The group discussed the uncertainty EU citizens face in the post-Brexit UK, and the dilemma many families face.
There were further talks on potential difficulties Britain would face without the strong migrant work force and the importance of foreign students to university life.
Milan Fuchs, a long-standing Winchester resident said “Even small engineering businesses and trades would find it difficult to be successful without the skilled EU labour, but sadly, some are already leaving the UK”.
