THE Geriactors Drama Group performed their latest offering A Sting in the Tail to raise money for charity.

Over 60 people attended Twyford Village Hall for a fun evening involving delicious food prepared by Lanterns School staff.

The play was of a high standard and one audience member was heard to say that was “surprisingly brilliant”.

The proceeds from the evening will go towards replacing children’s centre activities at Lanterns in Bereweeke Road, Weeke, in Winchester which were closed by Hampshire County Council as part of cost cutting measures.

Kathy East, chairman of the the Friends of Lanterns, said: “We are determined to keep these services going and to ensure that vulnerable and disadvantaged families don’t fall through the net.”

Now called Lanterns Nursery School and Extended Services it offers group activities and courses for families with children aged 0-5 years old.

The nursery school provides part-time nursery school provision for 110 children aged three-four years. Some 36 of these places are allocated to resourced provision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

It also has a limited number of places for two year olds.

The centre also provides a weekly breastfeeding support group for new and expectant mums, a base for health visitor clinics and for Home Start.
