AN ANNUAL fun run that is attended by hundreds every year has been cancelled by organisers.

The Bishop's Waltham Fun Run will not go ahead as an adjudicator and a doctor could not be secured.

The event was due to be staged on September 18 and features a five mile race and a two mile children's race.

Organised by Bishop's Waltham Rotary Club and English Athletics, the race usually draws experienced runners from all across the South Coast to take part.

Some even see it as a warm-up event for October's Great South Run.

In a statement, Mike Berry, of the rotary club, said: "It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that, at this last minute, the organisers have been obliged to cancel the annual Road Race and Fun Run for this year.

"The reason is that an adjudicator and a doctor have not been able to be secured for the event; without these two people the event cannot be run.

"This is an annual community event which lots of people get involved with each year, so we recognise that this will be a big disappointment to many people."
