A ROAD near Winchester was closed after 60 litres of oil was spilled by a tractor.

A mile-long stretch of Bullington Lane, in Sutton Scotney, was shut whilst fire crews mop up the hydraulic fluid, which leaked over the road.

It has since reopened after being closed for more than four hours.

A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said: “It look like the spill came from the tractor’s hydraulics.

"We are still awaiting the stop call.”

They added police are also on the scene re-directing traffic and highways officers are on route to make a decision on reopening the road.

A pump unit from Andover and environmental team from Romsey have been on the scene following the call at 11.13am.

The Highways Agency reopened the road at 3.30pm.
