FUNDRAISERS at Sainsbury’s in Badger Farm have raised £1,770 for Leukaemia Care.

The charity work stemmed from store greeter Mary Cahn losing her son, Daniel, to the disease aged just 24.

Twenty four workers trekked up Mount Snowdon in north Wales in memory of Daniel in April.

He was aged just 23 and a father of two, when he was diagnosed with leukaemia in May last year and died in September.

The cheque was presented to Leukaemia Care, which works with the newly-diagnosed, runs a 24-hour care line and support groups nationwide.

Mrs Cahn, of Porteous Crescent, Chandler’s Ford, said: “I am so touched and grateful to all the colleagues at Badger Farm who did this walk in memory of my beloved son. He was an amazing boy, kind-hearted, loving, honest and moral and he will be so missed by all who knew and loved him.

“Sainsbury’s managers and colleagues have been so kind and supportive to me at this terrible time and I would like to thank them for that.”

Fundraising at Sainsbury’s also £1,005 for Shepherds Down School. Another colleague, Kasia Edwards, also raised £300 for Bloodwise on the Internet, which is the research charity for leukaemia.

Mrs Cahn has also started an annual award at Daniel’s old secondary school, Thornden. The Daniel Cahn Heart of Gold award recognises acts of kindness and bravery.

The first recipients were Will Hunter and Harry Redsull who saved a school friend from two dogs in Otterbourne last November.
