AN UNDER-FIRE health trust has agreed to pay compensation after a teenager died in its care.

Connor Sparrowhawk, 18, drowned in a bath three years ago at a Southern Health NHS care unit and the Hampshire-based organisation has now agreed to pay £80,000 compensation to his family.

It comes after a damning review by the Care Quality Commission of the organisation caused its chairman and a board member to resign, with MPs and campaigners calling for other senior officials to step down.

The trust’s statement said: “Almost three years ago Connor Sparrowhawk died while in our care, for which we are deeply sorry, and we would like to take this opportunity to again offer our unreserved apologies to his family for his preventable death.

“We have now been able to come to a successfully mediated settlement with Connor’s family.”

Trust chief executive Katrina Percy has refused to resign, despite repeated calls.
