A PLANNING application for a 62 bedroom elderly care home in Compton has been approved.
Winchester city councillors heard how the new building, to be operated by Brendoncare, will take up the former site of the Captain Barnard pub.
The home, to be built on Otterbourne Road, will include 40 single rooms and 11 double nursing units.
Plans also include the construction of a villa to house four additional double rooms.
One concern raised by councillors regarded the use of an on-site generator.
However Carole Sawyers, chief executive of Brendoncare, squashed concerns saying it will only be used for back-up electricity.
The planning committee voted unanimously in favour.
