CONCERN is growing again over the dangerous junction in Cheriton.

The New Cheriton crossroads often sees near misses and screeching brakes.

City councillor Amber Thacker, who lives in the village, said it is the most raised issue in her ward.

She has spoken to county councillor Roger Huxstep as well as parish councillors in Cheriton and nearby Kilmeston.

Cllr Thacker is sounding out opinion about setting up a sub-group to look into the issue.

The biggest problem is the hedge on the north side of the A272 west of the junction which creates a blind spot for drivers at the Cheriton side of the crossroads.

The A272 is one of the most dangerous roads in the county and there have been fatalities in the area although none in recent years at the junction itself.

The county council has laid down anti-slip surfacing on the approaches to the crossroads.
