PROGRESS is being made in finding a permanent home for a large model of Victorian Winchester, the town forum heard.
Civic chiefs are working up plans for the model of the city in 1870 to go on display.
Roger Brown who took years creating the model died earlier this year, frustrated that his work was only seen occasionally.
Eloise Appleby, assistant director at the council, said one possible home could be the Tourist Information Centre at the Guildhall.
Another was an unspecified location being looked at by the Hampshire Cultural Trust which now runs several civic museums across the county.
Ms Appleby said the likely cost would be around £50,000 to include some minor repairs and enhancement with lighting and sound.
Cllr Fiona Mather said it was a shame that it could not go into the City Museum which already has several models of the city.
