AN open day at Winchester Fire Station has been cancelled following a fatal road crash.
The doors of the station on Easton Lane, Winnall, were to have swung open to the public this Saturday, September 3, from 10am to 4pm.
But the shift organising the day, Greenwatch, was involved in a collision near Lyndhurst on August 22 in which a car driver Darren Harvey was killed.
Watch Manager Kev Robson said: "The day was a Greenwatch day, largely organised by Greenwatch and because of the accident a decision was made to cancel it. Three firefighters are off sick and we also don't have a spare fire engine."
WM Robson said they hoped to hold a public event nearer Christmas.
Proceeds were to have gone to The Firefighters Charity and the 1947 Club.
