HOW could anyone abandon these kittens?

That is the question the Winchester and District Cats Protection is asking after they were found on the doorstep of one of its volunteers.

The male and female were left in a filthy holdall, with no food or water, at the volunteer's home in Weeke.

But the worker acted quickly and got them checked over by a vet. The pair are in good health have since been vaccinated and microchipped.

The cats, who have not yet been named by the charity, are about nine or ten weeks old and are described as playful.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Treasurer of the Cats Protection branch, Graham Barber, said it is the first time in years that kittens have been dumped in Winchester.

Mr Barber, said: “The person who dumped the cats had clearly heard of us and saw the address online.

“So it could have been a lot worse - they could have been drowned or put in boxes - so luckily someone did take the trouble to find out where our coordinator lives, however the manner it was done was upsetting.”

“We have not experienced this kind of episode for a very long time, usually responsible people get in touch with us and we always do everything in our power to help.”

“We thought the days of cats being dumped were gone and are just hoping this is a one-off.”

Cats Protection is concerned that other kittens could be in the area and may be born from the same mother. They are offering to have the mother neutered to prevent further unwanted kittens.
