IT is not the sort of thing one usually sees trundling late at night in Winchester city centre.
The vintage steam engine, pulling a howitzer, lumbered its wheezy way down Jewry Street last night.
The photograph was taken by city councillor Martin Tod on his way home from a council meeting.
He said: "To put it mildly, it was a bit of a surprise. You don't expect to see a World War One traction engine and howitzer driving through Winchester at 11 o'clock at night.
"Apparently, they were on their way from Sussex to a steam rally near Worcester. According to Cllr Jim Maynard they asked 'We've got to get to Worcester in the next eight hours. Can you tell us the best way to the A34?'"
