IT will soon be raining teddy bears in Winchester when a charity launches a fundraising stunt.

Action for Children, which provides services across Hampshire, is set to host a sponsored teddy bear parachute jump at the cathedral.

Children will be able to launch their bears, complete with their own parachutes, from the medieval church, before recovering from the excitement at a teddy bear picnic.

Authors of the Binky Bear books, Liz Nankivell and Moira Blackwell, both from Alresford, will open the event along with special guest Binky.

Kim Appleby, Action for Children fundraiser, said: “This May your teddy bear will have the exciting opportunity to join other brave and much-loved bears who will be making a very daring jump off the beautiful and iconic Winchester Cathedral.

“You don’t have to bring along your favourite bear, just your bravest! We’ll provide the parachutes and your bear will be given full training for their jump. As your bear floats through the sky, watch and cheer until they have landed safely on the ground.”

The event is at 10.30am-1.30pm on Friday May 29 and each bear will receive a Super Ted certificate and medal.

The charity is asking that each participant raises £25 in sponsorship.
