WINCHESTER is set to host the Bake for Heroes cake sale once more.

Volunteers for military charity Help for Heroes will run stalls in the Brooks Centre and St Maurice’s Covert on Saturday, March 14.

There will also be a street collection by the Hero Bear mascot.

Volunteer Sarah Ferguson is calling for homemade cakes, biscuits, jams and chutneys, as well as savoury treats, to be donated.

“I became involved with Help for Heroes nearly five years ago when I returned from serving in Afghanistan,” she said.

“I know how invaluable the generosity and support of the great British public is in making a huge difference to the lives of our Service Personnel with life-changing injuries. “As combat operations in Afghanistan have come to an end, it is more important than ever to continue to support our wounded, injured and sick for many years to come.”

The cake sale campaign has rapidly grown from seven events in 2008, to over 800 in 2014.

Chief executive and co-founder, Emma Parry, added: “H4H is all about ‘doing your bit’ and this event is a wonderful example of people rallying support and having a great deal of fun while they raise money.

“The money you raise is needed, it is being used and it is hugely appreciated.”
