MONEY to support Winchester buses should be switched from late night routes to better-used mid-evening ones, a travel enthusiast has said.
David Jones, of the Winchester Bus Travellers Club, urged the city council to negotiate with Stagecoach over providing more buses in the mid-evening.
Several services between 7-8.30pm have been scrapped after Hampshire County Council withdrew more than £1 million in subsidies.
Mr Jones told Winchester Town Forum: “They would be serving a wider range of the public and would probably be more attractive to Stagecoach.”
The forum currently subsidies late buses on Thursdays to Saturday.
Cllr Janet Berry, the Labour member who represents Highcliffe and Winnall, called for the forum to organise a public meeting about buses.
