A WOMAN who died on the M3 on Monday has been named.

Miriam Bartova, of Southampton, was travelling in a grey Fiat Stilo southbound between junctions 9 and 10 on the M3 when she was involved in a collision with a lorry at around 7.40am.

Originally from Slovakia, the 26-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after the car left the carriageway and landed on its roof.

The driver – a 24-year-old man – and a 36-year-old woman passenger were both taken to hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

Traffic was backed up for several hours while police investigated the cause of the crash.

She was one of two women to die on roads near Winchester on Monday – three days after two 19-year-olds were killed in Lyndhurst.

A middle-aged woman was killed in a crash on the A272 near Sutton Scotney at around 6.30am the same day and last Saturday morning saw Lily Butterfield-Godwin and Abbey Rogers killed when the car they were travelling in hit a wall in the village.

David Warren, 73, also died after a two-car collision in Newton Road in Eastleigh on Tuesday (Dec 16).

The fatalities has moved a police road safety expect to issue a warning to Hampshire drivers to be careful over the coming weeks.

Sgt Rob Heard, Hampshire Constabulary’s road safety officer, would not comment on the specific incidents but said he wants to minimise the number of crashes on the county’s roads. “We are being very proactive about identifying where we need to be with things, and we have a good working relationship with our partners,” he said.

“It’s very good that over the years the number of drunk drivers has gone down, but one death is too many and we are working to try to limit it as much as possible.

“You have peaks and troughs and with those five we have had dreadful consequences for those involved.

“It’s not worth the risk.”
