WINCHESTER Round Table has announced details of this year’s bonfire and fireworks party which will see River Park lit up once again.

On Saturday, November 8, the procession starts from the Broadway at 6.30pm, led by chairman Gareth Bloomfield.

Accompanied by a tender from Winchester fire station they will join the Mayor, Cllr Eileen Berry, who will light the bonfire at 7.15pm. The fireworks start at 7.45pm.

In its 56th year organisers hope the event, which raises money exclusively for local causes, will support 45 charities across the Winchester district.

For the second year, the event will be ticketed. Tickets can be bought for £3 until November 7, and for £5 on the day, from the Winchester Discovery Centre, Winchester Tourist Information, Mucky Duck, Balaka, Nanoo Hair, The Bell Inn and The Fulflood Arms.

People can also buy tickets online at winchesterbonfire.co.uk.

Roger Jones, Winchester Round Table bonfire chairman, said: “We are hugely excited for this year’s event. There is no greater sight than the High Street full of burning torches and smiling faces wrapped up warmly looking forward to seeing the bonfire being lit and the fireworks firing into the sky.

“This event is planned year-round by a small group of 25 blokes and last year it contributed over £40,000 to local charitable organisations and made a real difference to the Winchester community.

“This event would not exist without the generous nature of our supporters and sponsors. This year we have been pleased to welcome back many of our previous sponsors as well as several new ones who recognise the importance of the event in the city's calendar and the difference it makes to our community,” added Mr Jones.
