A HAMPSHIRE butcher has been celebrating after having been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

Nick Harriott, owner of the well-known West Meon company of the same name, said he was thrilled to be named as a finalist in the Butcher of the Year category in this year’s Hampshire Life Food and Drink Awards.

The Harriott name was first established when the family opened a shop in the Meon Valley in 1892.

Mr Harriott said: “At Harriotts we pride ourselves on offering customers a wide range of local produce.

"The experience and knowledge of the staff means that customers come back week after week, and after trading for more than 120 years we’re certainly part of the community.

"Final judging takes place in the next few weeks and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Hartley Witney in November."
