WINCHESTER man Gerry O’Keefe has completed his bold journey from London to Paris to raise money for a homeless charity.

The trustee cycled for three days in a bid to help Trinity – a shelter for vulnerable and homeless Winchester people – and completed his journey on Friday (September 19).

The 68-year-old has so far raised £1,800 of his £2,500 target to help pay for a new IT system at Trinity centre but said the ride was not without its challenges as he faced the perilous Parisienne traffic.

“We finished at the Champs-Élysées at about 7pm and I think it was the toughest day,” he said. “We found our way into Paris, amid all the chaos!

“It was pretty tough as we did 55 miles and it was pretty hot, about 25 degrees.

“We’ve raised £1,800 so far but the plan is to get to £2,500. We need help to replace the IT structure – it underpins the entire programme – and it’s vitally important to the centre.”

To prepare for his journey Mr O’Keefe had been cycling up to 150 miles per week and he took part in the 75-mile Meon Valley Monster Ride.
