WINCHESTER residents donned their hiking boots last weekend to raise money for a dementia charity.
On Saturday (SEP 13) over 100 people took part in the Winchester Memory Walk to support the Alzheimer’s Society.
The organisation works to improve the quality of life for people affected by dementia across the country.
Participants had two walks to choose from, a one-mile track around North Walls Recreation Ground, or a longer six-mile route through Winchester city centre, St Catherine’s Hill, St Cross, and back again.
One of the organisers, Natalie Bettinson, said she thinks the day was a success.
She said: “We had a really great day, with over 100 walkers. We are hoping to raise about £8,000.
“We had great support from the Southampton Ukulele Jam who performed on the day. They really got everyone going.”
Walkers were treated to a Zumba warm-up, and after the walk homemade cakes, tea and coffee, and family games.
The total raised is still being counted.
