WINCHESTER-based charity Fixers has been awarded £154,000 by The Queen’s Trust.

The money will help 245 young people take action on subjects they feel strongly about.

Fixers, based in St Thomas Street, has already supported more than 12,500 young people aged 16 to 25 across the UK to tackle any issue that matters to them, however they choose.

Margo Horsley, chief executive of Fixers, said: “We are delighted to be working with The Queen’s Trust because we share the confidence that young people know what matters and know how to affect change.

“This project is about young people deciding what needs fixing and then having the freedom to fix it in a way which is meaningful to them and to the communities in which they live.

Projects have included cyberbullying, unemployment, young offending, rape prevention and mental health.

The Queen’s Trust director Nicola Brentnall said: “Young people are responding in great numbers to the Fixers’ proposition. It shows how motivated they can be when it comes to addressing issues which are dear to their heart. The Fixers’ proposition is very open, engaging young people in a way which allows them to tackle all sorts of problems.”

Fixers aims to work with over 70,000 young people aged 16 to 25 by 2020.
