THE rain fell and people could see their breath but still they turned out in their hundreds to the village fete near Winchester.

St Mary’s Church in King’s Worthy held the event on Bank Holiday Monday on the village green off London Road.

It was styled a fete and ‘musical mayhem 2014.’ It was an unlikely match, drinking Pimms and listening to Joe, Joe and Tom’s rendition of Billy Bragg’s 1983 classic New England. The music went on until 11pm.

The fete also attracted the Watoto Children’s Choir, a group of orphan children from Uganda who sung gospel in an African style.

As well as the music there were lots of traditional things to enjoy, from face painting to juggling workshops, bouncey castles to cream teas, Splat the Rat to the cake stall.

Local organisations such as Worthy Conservation Volunteers and the Worthys Local History Group were among those to have stalls.
