A PAIR of gardeners from Winchester have come second in the BBC’s The Big Allotment Challenge.
Kate Bennett and Eleanor Waterhouse, both 63, got through to the final broadcast last Thursday.
The show is gardening’s answer to The Great British Bake Off.
Eleanor, a member of the Greening Fulflood group, said: “We had a whale of a time. It was very time-consuming but we really enjoyed it.
“When we entered we just hoped we weren’t going to get thrown out the first week. It was a great surprise to get to the final.”
The show was filmed last summer and Kate and Eleanor have had to keep the result secret for some nine months.
