SOME of Winchester’s most renowned style gurus have been on hand to give fashion ideas as part of Winchester Fashion Week.

The Slug and Lettuce was a hive of activity with clothes stands packed with the latest collections, tables bursting at the seams with Italian-leather handbags and row upon row of every kind of accessory money can buy.

Courtney Winstone, senior consultant for Captain Tortue women's clothing, said: “The event is all about discovering your style personality. It’s a one-stop-shop for everything a woman could need – clothes, handbags and accessories. It’s about looking at your body shape and looking at what colours you like.

“You don’t have to be a slave to the catwalk. Most women want to keep up with the trends but stay true to their own style and it’s about working to find the best look for you.

“This season we’re finding there are a lot of yellows and pinks and purples coming in which don’t necessarily work with everyone’s skin tone but match it with some black jeans and a neutral-handbag and you’ll be surprised what you can wear outside of your normal comfort zone.”

Sarah Fitzgerald, owner of Beyond the Skin Handbags, said: “Not everything has to cost the earth so it’s about affordability and fun and keeping up with the trends as well.”

Winchester Fashion Week continues tomorrow with Dressing the Mums at Brides of Winchester between 4.30-8.30pm where mothers of the bride can get advice on outfits and hats. Phase Eight is also hosting a mini fashion show from 7-9pm in aid of the mayor’s charity.
